Help a child victim of war: Fatehia’s story

Fatehia is a smiley ten year old girl from Yemen. She used to love going to school every day with her sister and her group of friends, despite the conflict that has been gripping her country in recent years.

But in February 2019, her primary school was hit by an airstrike. Fatehia was badly injured in the attack. And worse still, she could only watch as her best friend died by her side.

On hearing the blast, Fatehia’s father ran to the school to find his daughter lying on the ground, maimed and bleeding. He rushed her to the nearest hospital where doctors had no choice but to immediately amputate her right leg to save her life.

Soon after she woke up, Humanity & Inclusion’s team began visiting Fatehia for regular psychological support sessions.  Struggling to come to terms with what had happened, the little girl was crying most of time and went through several periods of depression and isolation.

As time went on, HI’s team started to give her physical rehabiliation sessions to support her recovery. When she was ready, we fitted her with a prosthetic limb and she is now starting the process of learning to walk again with the help of our dedicated team.

Despite everything that has happened to her, brave young Fatehia is beginning to smile again - more and more each day.
