Given the established correlation between poverty and disability, people with disabilities are over-represented among the most vulnerable groups. This fragile situation is exacerbated by conflicts in neighbouring countries and the impact of climate change.

HI worked in Guinea-Bissau between 2000 and 2006, and again from 2020 to March 2022. The organisation's last projects focused on inclusive education, to facilitate access to school for children with disabilities.

In Bolivia, HI is seeking to strengthen the inclusion in society of people with disabilities by facilitating access to rehabilitation care for young children and adolescents.

In Colombia, HI works in the fields of humanitarian demining, victim assistance and economic inclusion, and facilitates access to healthcare for Venezuelan refugees.

In Myanmar (formerly Burma), HI advances the rights of casualties of mines and explosive remnants of war and people with disabilities, and promotes their inclusion in local communities.

Present in Pakistan since the 1980s, HI addresses the needs of Afghan refugees and supports authorities for the development of rehabilitation services.

HI works to improve the inclusion of people with disabilities by seeking to ensure that children can go to school and adults can work and participate in community life. HI also provides rehabilitation care and helps communities build climate resilience. Our teams of deminers clear contaminated areas and others educate the population about the risks of explosive devices.

In Kenya, HI is working in refugee camps to improve access to healthcare, education and employment for people with disabilities.
