In December 2015 and January 2016, Handicap International distributed more than 1,700 winter kits to over 1,600 families from isolated communities in the district of Kavre, east of Kathmandu, who lost everything in the earthquake of April 2015. Designed to help them cope with the freezing temperatures, the kits contain warm clothes, blankets, foam mattresses, sheets and rope.

Handicap International also organised a national Master’s training programme 1 and training courses on managing injuries and traumas in 14 districts affected by the earthquake. More than 400 medical staff, including doctors, nurses and social workers, learned how to prevent secondary complications in patients with injuries. Handicap International is also continuing its rehabilitation and natural disaster risk management activities in Nepal.
