Half a tonne of weapons and bombs destroyed in Tawergha, Libya January, 16 2019
Since November 2018, Humanity & Inclusion's six weapons specialists have removed 150 explosive devices from the streets of Tawergha, a city south of Misrata, Libya. Team leader Simon Elmont tells us more about the organisation’s work.

Christella, Haiti: “Hang in there, never let go” January, 12 2015
When the earthquake struck Haiti on 12th January 2010, 12-year-old Christella was at school. The building collapsed on her and she spent the night and much of the next morning trapped under the rubble with the bodies of those who did not survive. After she was rescued Christella’s leg needed to be amputated at the upper thigh.

Rehabilitation care is essential for thousands injured in Gaza protests May, 30 2018
More than 13,000 people have been injured since March following demonstrations on the border between Gaza and Israel. HI recently deployed 10 emergency teams to provide rehabilitation care and psychological support to affected people in Gaza.

A new set of inclusion standards that provide humanitarian organisations with guidance to ensure older people and people with disabilities are not marginalised in emergency responses has been launched on 7th February.

Completion of demining operations in DRC February, 2 2018
HI has completed its demining operations in the Tshopo, Ituri, Bas-Uele and Haut-Uele provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), launched in January 2016. Over a two-year period, HI and its local partner, AFRILAM (Africa for Anti-Mine Action) cleared 34,520 m2 of land of mines, the equivalent of 5 football pitches, benefiting the 5,600 inhabitants in the region.

Air strike destroys MSF hospital in northern Syria February, 15 2016
A hospital supported by humanitarian organisation Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) in Marat al-Numan, 280 kilometres to the north of Damascus, was destroyed in an air strike on Monday 15th February. Seven people were killed in the attack and dozens injured.

Winter in Nepal: Handicap International assists the most vulnerable families April, 1 2016
Handicap International has distributed winter kits containing clothes, mattresses and blankets to vulnerable families in Nepal who lost everything in the earthquake of April 2015. Ten months on, the organisation continues to supply aid to victims of the disaster.

Indonesia tsunami: "More than 190,000 people need assistance" October, 4 2018
A powerful earthquake followed by a tsunami struck the centre of the Indonesian region of Sulawesi on 28th September, killing more than 1,400 people and injuring more than 2,500. Humanity & Inclusion, which has sent a support team of experts to Indonesia, is coordinating its response with local organisations.

Testing mine detection drones in Chad February, 4 2019
In Faya-Largeau (North Chad), HI has begun testing drones to detect mines and build up a detailed picture of what’s on the ground - a revolution in mine clearance practice. HI’s project manager Xavier Depreytere explains more.
